Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma nominated for ICC Player of the Month award for September 2026

October 6, 2026

India’s Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have been shortlisted for the ICC Player of the Month award for September 2026, following standout white-ball performances. Gill, the national captain, earned his fifth nomination after amassing 333 runs in two ODIs against the West Indies, including a double century (223 off 133 balls) in the second match.

Sharma, meanwhile, broke Rohit Sharma’s record with the fastest T20I century by a Full Member nation batter—a 108-ball 100 against Afghanistan—while accumulating 229 runs across four T20Is. Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza also made the men’s list, scoring 183 ODI runs at a strike rate of 92.89 and taking three wickets at an economy of 5.46 during a series against Australia, alongside 90 T20I runs and two wickets in three matches.

On the women’s side, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, India’s Sree Charani, and opener Shafali Verma were nominated after dominating the Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games. Athapaththu led Sri Lanka to the finals of both tournaments, scoring 226 runs at a strike rate of 140.37 and taking 14 wickets, including a seven-wicket haul against Indonesia.

Charani, the highest-rated bowler in ICC Women’s T20I history, claimed 18 wickets at an economy of 3.30, while Verma topped the Asia Cup run-scoring charts with 360 runs at 184.61 and scored an unbeaten 100 in the Asian Games semi-final. The winners will be decided by votes from the ICC Voting Academy and global fans.
