Vikings rule out Kyler Murray for Week 2 vs. Bears, Carson Wentz to start

Minnesota has officially sidelined quarterback Kyler Murray for their Week 2 clash against Chicago due to a concussion. Murray sustained the head injury during his first regular-season appearance for the franchise, exiting in the opening period against Green Bay following a scramble that drew a penalty on defensive back Javon Bullard, who hit him alongside Lukas Van Ness.

Taking his place under center will be Carson Wentz, who excelled in relief last week by completing 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards, three scores—including a 39-yard touchdown to Justin Jefferson—and zero giveaways despite absorbing three sacks.

With Murray out, the former Arizona signal-caller will have sat out 13 of his prior 14 contests dating back to a campaign-ending foot injury suffered against Tennessee in Week 5 of the previous season. The development once again disrupts stability at the position for the Vikings, who rotated through J.J.

McCarthy for 10 starts, Wentz for five, and Max Brosmer for two during the preceding year. McCarthy, who originally lost the summer competition to Murray before sliding behind Wentz due to poor throwing precision, will serve as the primary reserve as both Minnesota and Chicago enter the divisional meeting at 1-0.
