Ohio State junior wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has ignited a debate over whether he’s already the greatest college football receiver of all time, following a pair of dominant 200-yard performances in five games. Through the season’s first five contests, Smith has racked up 44 catches for 823 yards and nine touchdowns—leading the nation in all three categories.
His latest outing included 11 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-14 win over Iowa, where he also broke Ohio State’s single-season touchdown record with a 57-yard score and surpassed the school’s career receptions mark (207). Smith’s production has drawn comparisons to generational talents, with Bleacher Report CFB even posing the question of his all-time standing, though some fans argue it’s premature to crown him just yet.
Smith’s impact extends beyond statistics. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz called his performance “dominant,” while Ohio State’s new offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith, has been credited with unlocking Smith’s explosive potential—drawing parallels to his work with Tennessee’s Derrick Henry in 2020.
Smith himself has embraced the Heisman conversation, striking the trophy pose after his record-breaking touchdown and declaring his intent to compete for the award in December. His back-to-back 200-yard games make him the only player this season to achieve the feat, joining a select group in Big Ten history.
