Former Indian cricketer Sadagoppan Ramesh has publicly questioned the Chennai Super Kings' decision to exclude a dedicated batting coach from their coaching staff for the 2027 IPL season. Ramesh highlighted that while the team has bolstered its ranks with bowling-focused personnel like Zaheer Khan, Mohit Sharma, Gareth Batty, and Albie Morkel, the batting unit remains without a specialist mentor following Michael Hussey's departure.
He pointed to data showing the franchise has struggled with low team totals over the past two years, ranking among the league's bottom two in average runs scored. Given the presence of several young players, Ramesh expressed concern over the lack of batting guidance and speculated whether MS Dhoni might take on a mentorship role to support the squad.
