These five rookies balled out in their NFL debuts, but is their early success sustainable?

Evaluating opening-week rookie showings since 2020 highlights that usage and repeatable traits matter far more than mere box-score statistics. Previous retrospectives have tracked both immediate hits and winding trajectories, ranging from 2023 standouts like Bijan Robinson, Puka Nacua, Christian Gonzalez, Brian Branch, and Jalen Carter—three of whom secured record-setting contract extensions at their respective spots—to 2024 successes Jayden Daniels and Joe Alt alongside Caleb Williams.

Similar developmental contrasts appeared in 2025 between Cam Ward and the duo of Harold Fannin Jr. and Armand Membou, underscoring how challenging quarterback projections remain compared to other positions.

Tennessee Titans linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. headlined the 2026 rookie class during the opening slate by demonstrating rare three-down capability across 63 snaps.

Selected 60th overall as the seventh linebacker drafted, Hill racked up 16 tackles, deflected two passes, and yielded just 23 yards over six targets while shining in pass coverage, run defense, and pass-rushing opportunities.
