Following the conclusion of the three-match series, veteran cricketer Dinesh Karthik expressed frustration over the length of the final fifty-over contest between India and West Indies, which stretched to a duration of nine hours due to slow over-rate penalties and multiple heat breaks at the Mullanpur venue. Karthik argued that such extended playing times damage the appeal of the one-day format and alienate supporters.
Fellow player Ajinkya Rahane echoed these concerns, noting that the match felt excessively long from a spectator perspective and calling for stricter enforcement from authorities.
India had already claimed the series victory following an eight-wicket win earlier in Guwahati, leaving the Saturday afternoon fixture as a dead rubber before the timing issues emerged.
