Indian cricketer KL Rahul recently discussed the tactical adjustments required for middle-order batting following the International Cricket Council's regulation update regarding match balls. During the third fixture of the series against the West Indies, Rahul recorded an unbeaten 129 runs from 87 deliveries, marking his ninth century in the fifty-over format.
Speaking with JioStar, the experienced batsman noted how the single-ball rule implemented in July 2025 creates distinct hurdles during the closing stages of an innings. He explained that older, softer balls tend to reverse swing, which complicates shot-making against deep boundaries when approaching the final ten overs.
Rahul, who serves as deputy to captain Shubman Gill, transitioned from his customary opening position to accommodate the team's requirements in the middle order. He mentioned practicing power-hitting with worn balls to better suit his role at number five or six.
The veteran player is next anticipated to participate in the upcoming multi-format series against New Zealand.
