Following a dominant multi-medal campaign at the Asian Games 2026, Board of Control for Cricket in India official Devajit Saikia praised the nation's rising status in limited-overs cricket after both the men's and women's squads secured tournament victories. The men's squad successfully defended their top podium finish by overcoming Pakistan by nineteen runs in the championship match, building upon an earlier triumph where the women's roster defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs.
Saikia pointed to the depth of the talent pool, noting that a concurrent one-day international series against the West Indies showcased the depth of the reserves available for selection.
During the title fixture held at Korogi Sports Park, India batted first after winning the coin toss and established a total of 211 runs for the loss of six wickets. Contributions from opening batters Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson ended early, but impactful hitting from Abhishek Sharma—who contributed 61 runs from 28 deliveries with seven maximums—alongside a late offensive push from Tilak Varma secured the challenging target.
Saikia credited both the athletes and coaching staff for achieving the milestone.
