The European circuit has taken a firm stance as DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings issued an ultimatum requiring LIV Golf members to select their tour or forfeit their DP World Tour membership eligibility in 2027.
LIV Golf submitted a filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States in September 2026. During the bankruptcy court proceedings, legal representatives for the circuit argued that the DP World Tour's planned 2027 exclusions raised anti-competitive concerns and signaled potential legal measures against the European organization.
The legal warnings come as LIV Golf navigates Chapter 11 restructuring and faces the departure of several marquee figures. Jon Rahm has negotiated a separation agreement to terminate his involvement with LIV Golf, agreeing to forfeit an estimated £75 million still owed to him by the league to finalize his exit.
Thomas Pieters has reportedly resolved to depart LIV Golf as well, intending to compete on the DP World Tour in 2027, while Charles Howell III is also reported to be leaving the rival organization.
The viability of the breakaway enterprise remains in critical jeopardy as it works through the restructuring process. According to statements made by LIV Golf lawyers, the league will determine within the next two weeks whether it retains a future or will officially shut down operations.
