Abhishek Sharma set a new standard during India's pursuit of a 226-run target against New Zealand by launching the initial delivery for a maximum, marking his seventh time achieving this in the format and surpassing Shafiqullah Shinwari. Alongside Sanju Samson, the opening pair forged a massive 93-run partnership within the first six overs to propel the touring side to 94/1 during the powerplay.
Samson contributed an explosive knock by registering a fifty in only 23 deliveries, which ranks as the fourth-quickest at the ground. Michael Bracewell ultimately ended the opening stand by claiming the wicket of Abhishek for 29 runs off a delivery caught by Adam Milne.
