Get startedThe WNBA’s 2026 All-Rookie Team announcement left one glaring omission: Awa Fam, the third overall pick in last year’s draft, failed to secure a spot despite dominating key statistical categories. Fam led all rookies in total rebounds and rebounds per game, outpaced multiple guards in scoring, and ranked third among rookies in blocks—all while logging more minutes than several teammates on the first-team roster.
Her case for inclusion was further strengthened by her efficiency from the floor, where she outperformed guards like Sydney Taylor and Flau’jae Johnson, who were named to the team. The selection committee instead opted for a guard-heavy lineup featuring Olivia Miles (Rookie of the Year and MVP runner-up), Flau’jae Johnson (second in rookie scoring), and Pauline Astier, whose defensive impact stabilized New York’s backcourt.
Even Azzi Fudd, the top overall pick, couldn’t displace Fam’s production, raising questions about whether the team’s rules—allowing flexibility for a guard-dominated roster—were applied fairly to a forward with arguably the highest ceiling among rookies outside Miles.
