Why UFC Fans Are Frustrated by Islam Makhachev's Latest Comments

UFC champion Islam Makhachev has sparked significant fan backlash and retirement speculation by indicating he will not return to the Octagon until after Ramadan in mid-2027. Dana White addressed the fighter's absence, noting that a January return was originally planned before the champion delayed his schedule.

In response to the inactivity and upcoming interim championship bout between Michael Morales and Carlos Prates at UFC 336, social media users criticized the titleholder for potentially avoiding difficult contenders and suggested performance-enhancing drug use. Makhachev defended his career path on social media, emphasizing that his upcoming bouts will be among his final appearances as he pursues the toughest challenges available in the division.
