Wales has advanced to the final round of the Women's World Cup qualification play-offs following a victory over Albania, extending their unbeaten streak to ten matches. They are now scheduled to compete against Norway in a two-legged series, with the first match taking place at the Cardiff City Stadium on December 1, followed by the return fixture four days later.
Despite the high stakes, a win against the Norwegians does not guarantee automatic qualification for the tournament. Due to the complex structure of the European qualifying path, the lowest-ranked winner among the eight play-off finalists must participate in an additional inter-confederation knockout round next February.
Wales currently faces the possibility of being that lowest-ranked side, though their path to the World Cup could be secured if Finland manages to defeat Italy in their own play-off final. If Finland fails to progress, a Welsh victory over Norway would still leave the team needing to win a single match in the inter-confederation stage to reach the finals.
