England is set to return to Pakistan for an ODI after a 21-year absence, marking their first white-ball series in the country since 2005. The team will face hosts Pakistan and Sri Lanka in a Tri-Nation ODI tournament, with the opening match scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The last time England toured Pakistan for ODIs, they played a five-match series in 2005, which Pakistan won 3-2 under captain Younis Khan. The final match of that series saw England secure a narrow six-run victory in Rawalpindi, with James Anderson taking four wickets to steer his side to the win.
Pakistan’s Naved-ul-Hasan was the standout performer in that series with nine wickets, while Kamran Akmal dominated the batting with 245 runs.
This revival of England’s ODI schedule in Pakistan comes as part of a double round-robin format, with Pakistan already defeating Sri Lanka by 37 runs in their opening encounter. The return to Rawalpindi holds historical significance, as it was the venue for England’s last ODI in Pakistan over two decades ago, adding to the anticipation for Tuesday’s clash.
