What led Giants to their J.J. McCarthy decision: ‘Felt very strongly’

The New York organization acquired J.J. McCarthy from Minnesota in exchange for a draft choice in the fifth round of the 2027 selection meeting.

Head coach John Harbaugh expressed excitement about adding the signal-caller to a depth chart that currently features Jameis Winston as the starter and lacks Jaxson Dart following his knee procedure. McCarthy was selected tenth overall in the 2024 draft but struggled during his stint with the Vikings.

Jake Haener was waived to make room and will join the practice squad while the coaching staff evaluates who will back up Winston against the Cardinals.
