What happens if AL West, NL wild card are tied? MLB tiebreaker rules

Entering the final day of the regular season, the American League West and National League wild card races remain undecided. The Houston Astros and Texas Rangers share identical records at 80-81, while the Philadelphia Phillies hold an 87-74 mark ahead of the 86-75 Arizona Diamondbacks.

Tiebreakers could prove decisive if these squads finish deadlocked.

In the AL West, Houston holds the advantage by virtue of taking nine of thirteen matchups against Texas during the year. For the final NL wild card slot, Philadelphia and Arizona split six head-to-head contests, pushing the tiebreaker criteria to intradivision performance where the Diamondbacks boast a 32-19 record compared to the Phillies' 28-24 mark.
