West Indies secured a 24-run victory over India in the fourth T20I of their five-match series in Hyderabad, but their final-over tactics drew sharp criticism. Shamar Joseph, the West Indies fast bowler, repeatedly delivered short-pitched balls at Arshdeep Singh when India had no realistic chance of winning, with the Indian batter needing 35 runs off the last over and just one wicket remaining.
One of Joseph’s deliveries struck Arshdeep on the shoulder and arm, forcing him to the ground and prompting medical attention. Despite the pain, Arshdeep continued batting until India’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, urged him to retire, ending the match.
Former Bengal cricketer Shreevats Goswami condemned Joseph’s approach, calling it unsportsmanlike and arguing that a more conventional line of attack would have been more appropriate in the closing stages of the game. The controversy overshadowed West Indies’ win, which tied the series at 2-2 heading into the decider in Bengaluru.
