The Washington Huskies secured a hard-fought 17-10 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, marking their second consecutive Big Ten win and moving one step closer to bowl eligibility. Nebraska, despite holding a lead heading into the fourth quarter, dropped its third straight Big Ten game after Washington’s defense stifled their offense for much of the contest.
The Huskies’ offense remained scoreless for over 58 minutes, with their lone point coming from a 50-yard field goal by kicker Tyler Robles late in the first half. Nebraska’s only touchdown before the Huskies’ late surge was a 24-yard pass from senior quarterback Anthony Colandrea to tight end Carter Nelson in the first quarter, but Colandrea struggled the rest of the way, throwing three interceptions and completing just 24 of 44 passes for 255 yards.
A bold coaching decision by head coach Jedd Fisch turned the tide in the final quarter. After third-year quarterback Elijah Brown started the game and went without a touchdown, Fisch inserted Demond Williams Jr.
for two drives. Williams’ second drive culminated in a game-changing 25-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Chris Lawson, who made two highlight-reel plays in three snaps to seal the win.
The Huskies’ defense, meanwhile, recorded two sacks, four tackles for loss, and eight passes defended, setting the stage for the offense’s late rally.
