Former Pakistan bowling legend Waqar Younis has defended Babar Azam, suggesting the star batter would mirror the legendary career of Sachin Tendulkar if he received adequate support from his teammates. During a recent interview, Younis contrasted the current Pakistan lineup with the 1990s era, noting that while he played alongside multiple match-winners, Azam currently carries the batting burden alone.
He also identified Azam and Shaheen Afridi as the primary superstars in the national setup despite their recent struggles in form.
Azam is currently navigating a difficult patch in white-ball cricket, having accumulated only 118 runs across the ongoing tri-series at an average of 29.50. His recent output includes a top score of 45, and he has failed to register a half-century in his last five ODI appearances.
Despite these individual challenges, Pakistan has successfully advanced to the final of the home-hosted tri-series, where they are set to face Sri Lanka.
