Newly acquired center Walker Kessler has already deeply impressed his new Los Angeles Lakers teammates and coaching staff during media availability ahead of taking the floor. Head coach JJ Redick praised the center's character following a massive four-year, $130 million trade that required the franchise to surrender two unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 as well as pick swaps in 2028 and 2030, leaving the team with zero tradable first-round selections through 2033.
Kessler expressed immense gratitude for the organization's heavy investment and vowed to compete fiercely on every possession.
Teammates have already pointed to the defensive impact the newcomer will bring to the floor. Jake LaRavia noted that the interior presence will allow perimeter defenders to play with greater aggression and pick up opponents full court, while Matisse Thybulle stated he feels capable of reaching his maximum defensive potential with Kessler protecting the rim.
Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, Kessler echoed Redick's sentiment that the squad is built to contend for a championship and promised an exceptionally tough defensive identity.
