Former India captain Virat Kohli has climbed to the second spot in the latest international fifty-over batting standings following a brilliant, unbeaten knock of 139 against the West Indies. This rating improvement leaves him merely twenty points behind compatriot Shubman Gill, who maintains his position at the summit of the table.
Kohli achieved his fifty-fifth century in this format during the series opener, surpassing the milestone of fifteen thousand career runs in the process. His aggressive eighty-eight-ball innings enabled the national side to successfully overtake a target of 296 with plenty of deliveries remaining.
Following this recent surge, Kohli now sits ahead of New Zealand competitor Daryl Mitchell, establishing his highest rating value since the middle of 2022. The upcoming fifty-over global tournament, scheduled to take place across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, approaches with significance as the veteran batter has indicated that the upcoming competition will mark his final appearance in the global showcase for his country.
