Minnesota has parted ways with quarterback J.J. McCarthy, trading the former tenth overall draft selection to New York in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the draft scheduled for 2027.
The move comes after McCarthy slipped down the depth chart behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz in Minnesota. The Giants acquire the quarterback to address a major depth issue following a significant knee injury that sidelined Jaxson Dart for the duration of the regular season.
Jameis Winston recently served as the starter for New York, supported by Jake Haener as the backup. McCarthy now joins a franchise led by head coach John Harbaugh, having previously played under Jim Harbaugh during his college career at Michigan.
Whether the newly acquired signal-caller sees the field depends entirely on the health and performance of Winston.
