Venus Williams’ latest defeat should leave tournaments with no doubt over change that needs to be made in 2027

Venus Williams, age 46, continues to struggle on the court after falling to 18-year-old Lilli Tagger in straight sets at the Guangzhou Open. This result marks the veteran's 16th consecutive singles loss, with her last victory dating back to the 2025 Mubadala DC Open.

Despite the singles defeat, Williams did find success in the doubles bracket alongside partner Janice Tjen, securing a win against Ekaterine Gorgodse and Kimberley Zimmermann.
