Southern California linebacker Desman Stephens II has received a one-game suspension following his conduct in a weekend matchup against Oregon. During the second quarter of the contest, Stephens delivered a forearm blow to opposing signal-caller Dante Moore as the quarterback was sliding to the turf.
Moore was subsequently taken off the playing field on a stretcher and transported to a medical facility, where he was later diagnosed with a concussion without further reported injuries. USC head coach Lincoln Riley condemned the behavior as unacceptable and announced that the defender will sit out the upcoming Saturday fixture versus Washington.
Stephens was captured on video appearing to celebrate the late hit upon returning to the bench area. In an official statement released by the university, the linebacker expressed deep remorse for his actions, acknowledged full responsibility for the incident, and offered an apology to the injured quarterback and his family.
