LSU defensive standout Tyrann Mathieu has been named to the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2027, set to be inducted in spring 2027. The selection recognizes Mathieu’s standout performance in the 2011 Cotton Bowl, where he led the Tigers to a 41–24 victory over Texas A&M as a true freshman.
His game included eight tackles, a sack, an interception, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup—earning him Defensive MVP honors and making him just the second freshman in Cotton Bowl history to win the award. Mathieu’s dominance in that game marked the final time he wore No.
14 for LSU before his legendary career continued in the NFL.
