Tulsa’s Golden Hurricane turned a struggling season around with a dominant 38-17 road win over Rice in Houston, snapping a three-game losing streak for the Owls. The Golden Hurricane’s offense exploded in the second half, scoring 31 unanswered points after Rice had built a 17-7 lead.
Quarterback Baylor Hayes delivered his best performance of the season, completing 20 of 27 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, including a pivotal 11-yard strike to Javon Ross to shift momentum. The defense also played a key role, with Devin Robinson forcing a strip-sack that set up a touchdown drive, and the offense closed the game with a 45-yard rushing touchdown by Damari Alston, sealing a 31-0 run in the final minutes.
Rice’s Jacurri Brown, who had rushed for 146 yards in the first half, including two long touchdowns, was limited by injuries and saw his production drop sharply in the second half. Despite Brown’s early dominance—he outgained Tulsa’s entire rushing attack—Rice’s option offense stalled, and the Owls fell to six consecutive losses, extending their longest losing streak since 2020.
The defeat also pushed Rice closer to missing bowl eligibility for the first time since 2021, when they qualified at 5-7 due to a lack of available bowl teams.
