Struggling National League club Gateshead have encountered severe financial difficulty after failing to distribute September salaries to both players and employees. The team currently sits at the foot of the table following a dismal run of five consecutive defeats, a stretch during which they managed just one goal while leaking sixteen.
In the boardroom, Mark Nellist stepped down from his director role and pulled his financial backing after expressing dissatisfaction with the club's trajectory. Interim chairman Graham Wood indicated that efforts to secure fresh capital are underway following Nellist's exit.
Wood noted that encouraging headway has occurred over the past day, with the former backer agreeing to release his shares for a nominal price to help facilitate a takeover. Meanwhile, the squad managed by Lee Cattermole prepares to host Worthing on Saturday.
