Travis Head vs Temba Bavuma: Australia star takes dig at South Africa captain after 214-run win

Australia’s Travis Head took a playful jab at South Africa captain Temba Bavuma following a commanding 214-run Test victory in Durban, marking the Proteas’ first defeat under his leadership. Head shared an AI-generated meme on Instagram depicting Bavuma’s stunned reaction to Australia’s dominant totals—390 and 314/6 declared—while highlighting Josh Hazlewood’s match-winning bowling figures of 6/49 in the second innings.

The loss ended Bavuma’s 12-match unbeaten streak as Test captain, a run that included 11 wins, as South Africa collapsed for 206 after being set 421 to chase. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, now hold a 1-0 series lead in the three-match contest, though South Africa had previously defeated them in the 2025 World Test Championship final.

Matt Renshaw was instrumental for Australia with an unbeaten 190 in the first innings and an 82-ball 82 in the second, while Hazlewood’s 8-wicket haul (2/54 in the first innings, 6/49 in the second) anchored the bowling attack. The win also marked Australia’s first Test victory in South Africa since the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, as Cummins’ side capitalized on South Africa’s struggles after a strong start to Bavuma’s captaincy.

The defeat prompted Bavuma to reflect on his team’s performance, acknowledging the need for adjustments ahead of the second Test.
