After two seasons that featured a steep 1.1‑km climb up Montmartre, the 2027 Tour de France is expected to revert to the classic flat sprint finish on the Champs‑Élysées, according to French newspaper Le Progrès. The organisers are reportedly dropping the Côte de la Butte Montmartre, which had a 5.9% average gradient and cobbled sections, from the final stage that will be unveiled in Paris next Thursday.
The Montmartre ascent produced drama in 2025 when Wout van Aert broke away from Tadej Pogačar to claim victory, and again this year when Mathieu van der Poel survived a small‑group attack that also involved Pogačar to win the sprint. Both editions saw the general‑classification timing frozen on the climb, a measure that the organisers apparently prefer to avoid in order to preserve the traditional celebratory atmosphere of the Paris finish.
