22 Houston with a 28-26 victory at Galaxy Stadium in Lubbock. The Red Raiders turned to Will Hammond under center after starting signal-caller Thomas Castellanos was picked off on his initial snap of the contest.

Hammond steered the offense alongside standout contributions from Kenny Johnson and an effective ground game.

The Red Raiders ultimately protected their narrow lead in the closing moments by stuffing Houston on a decisive two-point conversion attempt. Defensively, Texas Tech also relied on stops such as Austin Romaine and Malik Esquerra combining to bring down Cougars ball-carrier Makhi Hughes during first-half action to help close out the tightly contested matchup.
