Minnesota attempted to secure a long-term signal-caller during the 2024 draft by trading up from the eleventh position to tenth to select J.J. McCarthy, bypassing Bo Nix.

Following a rookie season lost to injury and subsequent ups and downs during his sophomore campaign, the front office acquired Kyler Murray in free agency. McCarthy eventually slipped on the depth chart and was traded to the Giants for a draft choice after New York lost Jaxson Dart to injury.
