Alexander Zverev is set to become the first German to hold the ATP year-end top ranking since Boris Becker in 1991, following a stellar season that featured Grand Slam triumphs at Roland Garros and the US Open, alongside a runner-up finish at Wimbledon. However, because those two majors represent his only tour-level tournament victories this year, the twenty-nine-year-old is closing in on an unwanted milestone.
If he fails to secure two additional tournament wins before the conclusion of the calendar, he will establish the lowest total number of titles ever recorded by a year-end world number one. Zverev has endured final losses to Jannik Sinner at both the Madrid Open and Wimbledon, while also bowing out in seven semifinal matches across various competitions, including the Australian Open, the Shanghai Masters, and four ATP Masters 1000 events.
He will attempt to boost his trophy count and avoid the dubious record during upcoming appearances at the Vienna Open, the Paris Masters, and the ATP Finals.
