The Toronto Raptors have a unique opportunity to honor the city’s basketball roots by reintroducing a throwback jersey inspired by the Toronto Huskies, the team that played in the inaugural 1946-47 Basketball Association of America (BAA) season. The Huskies, who competed just once in the BAA, lost their only game—against the New York Knicks—by a two-point margin (68-66) at Maple Leaf Gardens on November 1, 1946.
Though the franchise folded shortly after, its blue jerseys remain a striking visual callback to that historic era, offering a bold aesthetic departure for the Raptors, who have not worn such a design in years. The team already celebrated the Huskies’ legacy in 2016-17 with a dedicated throwback night, pairing the retro look with the Raptors’ golden era featuring stars like Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.
Fans might also appreciate the playful mascot element, as the Raptors’ mascot, Raptor, has been spotted donning the Huskies jersey during games, adding a nostalgic touch to the arena atmosphere.
