Following a difficult campaign last year, the defensive unit for Los Angeles has rebounded strongly across the first three weeks of action. Despite missing Myles Garrett for a pair of contests and dealing with injuries to new additions Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie, the unit ranks seventh in EPA per play overall and shines particularly bright in limiting opposing aerial attacks.
Chris Shula's group has successfully held down opponents in several metrics, though the team currently sits at a 1-2 record as the offense and special teams struggle to find consistency.
While the group ranks near the top of the league in explosive play prevention and yards after contact allowed per carry, they continue to navigate personnel hurdles. Watson is slated to miss the upcoming matchup against Philadelphia, leaving Josh Wallace to step in as a replacement.
Even with these roster questions moving forward, the early performance suggests the defensive side of the ball is pulling its weight while the other units look to correct their miscues.
