Legendary college football coach Dennis Franchione has died at the age of 75. Franchione’s tenure at TCU from 1998 to 2000 marked a pivotal period for the program, where he compiled a 25-10 record and led the Horned Frogs to a 10-1 campaign in his final season.
His impact extended beyond Fort Worth, as he later guided programs at Alabama, Texas A&M, and Texas State, amassing a career record of 127-110 across five FBS schools. Franchione’s coaching career spanned two decades, with notable stops including two seasons at Alabama, where he posted a 17-8 record, and a six-year stint at Texas A&M, though his tenure there ended with a 32-28 mark and his resignation in 2007.
After a brief hiatus, he returned to coaching in 2011, leading Texas State through 2015. His legacy also includes laying the foundation for TCU’s future success, as defensive coordinator Gary Patterson took over after Franchione’s departure and went on to coach the Horned Frogs for over two decades with remarkable achievements.
