Harlequins snapped their three-game losing streak in the Premiership with a commanding 57–19 victory over Vannes in the opening round of the 2026–27 European Challenge Cup. Despite sitting at the bottom of the league, the English side dominated their French opponents, scoring nine tries to Vannes’ three, including standout performances from England back Marcus Smith and captain Cadan Murley.
Smith, who contributed 22 points with two tries and six conversions, led the scoring alongside Murley, who crossed twice, while Will Evans, Will Hobson, and Sam Riley also added to the haul. Vannes, who are also struggling at the bottom of France’s Top 14, managed three tries from Wayan De Benedittis and winger Enzo Benmegal, but Quins’ forward dominance—including tries from replacement hooker Jimmy Staples—sealed the win after a brief early setback, including a yellow card for Smith after a deliberate knock-on.
The victory marks Harlequins’ first Challenge Cup win since 2018, though they face a tougher test next when they host Saracens in a Premiership derby next Sunday, aiming to build momentum after a dismal start to the season.
