Race officials opted for a reduced five-second sanction rather than the standard ten-second penalty for George Russell after evaluating a first-lap maneuver at turn twelve involving Oscar Piastri and Isack Hadjar during the United States Grand Prix. In a separate incident during the same lap at turn eleven, Gabriel Bortoleto and Franco Colapinto engaged in a similar wheel-to-wheel contest, but adjudicators ultimately took no further action because available evidence could not clearly establish which driver held the leading position at the apex.
