The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced they are placing wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve, ending his short season with the team.
Pittman aggravated a foot injury during Wednesday’s practice, with coach Mike McCarthy indicating the setback will sideline him for multiple weeks. The injury is a recurrence of plantar fasciitis in his left foot, which had already kept him out of the Steelers’ Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots.
Acquired in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts earlier this year, Pittman signed a three-year, $59 million contract extension in March, but his season has been limited to just seven receptions for 89 yards on 12 targets so far.
