The St. Louis Blues are reportedly eyeing another young defenseman in the NHL trade market, this time turning their focus toward Detroit Red Wings’ restricted free agent Simon Edvinsson.
At 23, Edvinsson is a versatile two-way defender with offensive upside, having recorded career-highs of nine goals and 31 points in two full NHL seasons. His size (6-foot-6) and mobility make him a strong candidate for a top-pairing role, though his contract value is expected to rise as the salary cap increases.
The Blues have previously pursued Carolina Hurricanes’ Alexander Nikishin but have yet to finalize a deal, adding urgency to their search for a proven blueliner. Meanwhile, the Red Wings—holding Edvinsson’s rights—are reportedly seeking a high-level NHL center in return, with Dalibor Dvorsky being floated as a potential trade chip.
The Blues, however, may hesitate to part with Dvorsky, who has secured a middle-six role and is considered a key piece in their rebuild. With their defense now a strength after recent moves like signing Mason McTavish and drafting Tynan Lawrence and Maddox Dagenais, St.
Louis could be willing to trade assets to secure Edvinsson, though the cost may be steep given his rising market value.
