Special teams let Texas down against Tennessee

Despite climbing three spots in the ESPN SP+ rankings up to number twenty-two following a narrow seventeen to ten victory against the Volunteers, the Texas special teams unit faced sharp criticism from head coach Steve Sarkisian regarding glaring errors during the contest. The primary concern stemmed from kicker Gianni Spetic, whose impressive seventy-seven point two percent touchback rate through the first three matchups plummeted to just twenty percent after five kickoffs at Neyland Stadium, culminating in a late kick out of bounds that handed Tennessee prime field position.

Additionally, the Longhorns surrendered their first punt return touchdown since twenty thirteen when Qua Moss broke free for a fifty-seven yard score in the third quarter, a breakdown facilitated by missed blocks involving Kohen Brown and Ryan Niblett alongside unsuccessful tackle attempts by Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Justin Cryer, and Colton Vasek.
