The athletic community is mourning the tragic death of twenty-four-year-old Julieta Gallego following a devastating rail disaster in Toledo that claimed seventy-four lives. The Madrid-based competitor, who regularly represented AD Sprint in domestic tournaments, achieved a career-best leap of 5.90 meters to secure fourth position at the twenty-twenty-three national under-twenty-three indoor championships held in Antequera.
During that same meeting, podium spots were filled by Tessy Ebosele, Evelyn Yankey, and Carmen Rosales, while Gallego later finished eighth at the outdoor equivalent the following season with a mark of 5.62 meters. Raul Chapado, heading the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, conveyed deep sorrow over the tragedy, and her club organized a commemorative moment of reflection at athletic facilities in Paracuellos and Santa Ana.
