India Test captain Shubman Gill is taking a proactive approach to his upcoming red-ball series in New Zealand, arranging four to five personal net bowlers for dedicated practice sessions. Unlike typical BCCI-organized nets, Gill is covering all expenses for these bowlers himself, marking an unusual step in his preparation ahead of the challenging conditions in New Zealand.
The 26-year-old, who recently scored 754 runs in India’s five-Test series against England, will depart for the tour on October 23 or 24, prioritizing his Test preparations over India A duties due to overlapping ODI commitments. Gill’s early departure allows extra time to adapt to the pitch and refine his technique before facing New Zealand’s bowling attack.
He will also return to Punjab’s Ranji Trophy campaign on October 18, securing red-ball match practice before the tour begins.
