The Pretoria Capitals are entering the SA20 2026 season with a clear strategy and a strong financial advantage, having secured the largest purse of R32.5 million after retaining key players. The franchise, which reached the final last season but fell short of winning, has appointed Sourav Ganguly as head coach, replacing Jonathan Trott.
Ganguly, known for his experience in cricket operations with Delhi Capitals and JSW’s franchise network, has outlined a focused approach for the auction, emphasizing the core group’s potential to push for another title. The retained squad includes Phil Salt, Dewald Brevis, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Andre Russell, and Sherfane Rutherford, with Brevis becoming the most expensive buy in SA20 history at R16.5 million.
Maharaj, the team’s captain, was picked up for R1.7 million, reinforcing the franchise’s commitment to its domestic talent. With five spots remaining, the Capitals will target specific areas of need to complete their squad, balancing depth and firepower ahead of the season.
