Indian T20 captain Shreyas Iyer has publicly reassured rising talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to remain patient and focused on his development, emphasizing that opportunities with the national team will come when he demonstrates consistency. Sooryavanshi, who has scored 246 runs across eight T20Is at a strike rate over 186, including two half-centuries, did not feature in the recent high-scoring series against West Indies, which ended in a 2-2 draw after the fifth match was abandoned due to rain.
The series saw explosive batting performances, with West Indies’ Shai Hope finishing as Player of the Series after amassing 261 runs, including two centuries and a half-century, while India’s top openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma both scored over 145 runs with two half-centuries each. Iyer acknowledged that India’s bowling struggles in the second and fourth matches—where they conceded over 240 runs—could have altered the series outcome, despite the team’s strong batting display overall.
