Indian team leader Shreyas Iyer recently shared his thoughts regarding fifteen-year-old left-handed batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, highlighting the contrast between the youngster's quiet demeanor off the field and his explosive batting style. Iyer explained that while Sooryavanshi remains part of the fifteen-player squad for the upcoming matches in the West Indies, he will likely begin on the bench because established World Cup-winning openers are currently preferred in the starting lineup.
During his rapid ascent in international cricket, Sooryavanshi previously became the youngest player to represent India and helped his country secure a gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan by contributing thirty-eight runs against Sri Lanka in the semi-final and fifteen runs against Pakistan in the final. Across eight total T20 international appearances, the teenager has accumulated 246 runs at an average of 30.75 alongside a strike rate of 186.37.
