Fred Claire, the former general manager who guided the Los Angeles Dodgers to a World Series championship in 1988, has passed away at the age of 83. Claire was widely remembered for his humility, leadership, and deep respect for colleagues, famously recalling a college student he once hired for fifteen dollars a game to operate the stadium scoreboard during the historic 1976 incident involving Rick Monday rescuing an American flag from protesters.
Beyond his executive achievements, Claire later co-taught sports business classes at USC with Jeff Fellenzer and maintained an open-door policy to mentor students pursuing careers in baseball.
