Ahead of the opening Test against Sri Lanka, Babar Azam has clarified that his influence on team composition is limited to providing feedback. The batter noted that final authority regarding player selection and squad changes rests with the coaching staff and selectors, while his own focus remains on maximizing the output of the available roster.
Pakistan has undergone a significant squad overhaul, including the removal of Abdullah Fazal and Ali Usman just two days before the match, as the team looks toward the next World Test Championship cycle. With the side currently at the bottom of the standings, the management is prioritizing the integration of young domestic talent to build for future competition.
This transition follows a turbulent period during the 2026 England tour, which involved multiple player replacements and coaching staff changes.
