The SEC has escalated its legal battle against LSU, rejecting the school’s attempt to dismiss its lawsuit over violations of conference rules. In a 41-page filing, the league argued that LSU’s repeated defiance—including attempts to roster former NFL players in football and basketball—demonstrates a pattern of noncompliance.
The dispute stems from LSU’s efforts to sign Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, both of whom had signed NFL preseason contracts, despite an SEC rule prohibiting such rosters. After LSU’s coach, Lane Kiffin, ultimately did not roster them, the school moved to dismiss the case, claiming the issue was moot.
However, the SEC countered that LSU’s ongoing disregard for professionalism rules—including plans to sign RJ Luis Jr., a former G League player with NBA experience—keeps the legal conflict alive. The league also cited recruitment of international professional basketball players whose eligibility remains uncertain, reinforcing its claim that LSU’s actions threaten the integrity of SEC standards.
