The Seattle Seahawks have added veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad, providing much-needed depth to a backfield currently dealing with injuries. Mixon, 30, returns to the NFL after sitting out the entire 2025 season due to a foot injury that led him to publicly consider retirement.
Before his absence, he was a two-time Pro Bowler and a key contributor for the Houston Texans in 2024, rushing for 1,016 yards and averaging 4.1 yards per carry, while also adding 309 receiving yards. His career includes five seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards, peaking with 1,205 yards in 2021 during his tenure with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Mixon’s arrival comes as Seattle’s backfield faces challenges, with rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet still recovering from a PUP list stint. While Emanuel Wilson’s standout 81-yard performance helped the Seahawks secure a win on Sunday, Mixon’s addition could provide immediate relief, especially as Charbonnet remains unavailable for Week 5.
The veteran’s experience and proven production make him a valuable asset as the team navigates its backfield struggles.
