Los Angeles Clippers guard Max Strus will miss at least the first month of the regular season after suffering a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot during a preseason game against the Golden State Warriors in Hawaii. Strus exited the contest after just five minutes and has been diagnosed with an injury that will require four weeks of recovery before a reassessment, pushing his Clippers debut back to early November at the earliest.
The setback adds to the team’s offseason injury woes, as forward Brandon Ingram is also sidelined with a partially torn Achilles tendon, though his recovery timeline remains uncertain. Strus, acquired in August from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team trade involving Peyton Watson, has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, appearing in only 50 games last season and playing more than 70 games in just two of his seven NBA campaigns.
The Clippers open their regular season at home against the Sacramento Kings on October 21, but Strus’ absence will limit their depth early on. His contract, a four-year, $62 million deal signed with Cleveland before the 2023-24 season, is set to expire after this year, adding another layer of uncertainty to his future with the team.
